Around the AFC West: Week 14

Patrick Mahomes was not happy with the referees at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs 20-17 week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, but he really should only be made at Kadarius Toney who was (correctly) flagged for being lined up offsides on a play that resulted in a touchdown. That play was the difference in the game. Mahomes was again unable to eclipse the 300-yard passing mark in this one. He ended the game with 271 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception. Travis Kelce was the Chiefs leading receiver with six catches for 83 yards. Kansas City takes on the New England Patriots in week 15.

The Denver Broncos pulled to within a game of the Chiefs in the division with their 24-7 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Russell Wilson threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Cortland Sutton had another efficient day catching just three passes but racking up 62 yards and a touchdown on those three catches. As for the Chargers side of the ball, it was a long day after Justin Herbert was forced to leave the game with a finger injury. Easton Stick took over for Herbert and threw for 179 yards. Keenan Allen had six catches in the loss. That gives Allen 108 catches on the season which leads all receivers in the NFL. The Broncos travel to Detroit to take on the Lions on Saturday while the Chargers play the Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football this week.

Speaking of the Raiders, they lost the ugliest game of week 14 3-0 to the Minnesota Vikings. The Las Vegas defense was great while the offense was terrible. The Raiders sacked Josh Dobbs five times on the afternoon and forced two fumbles. Unfortunately, their offense could not take advantage. Aidan O’Connell threw for just 171 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. Davante Adams, who was once among the best receivers in the league, was held to just 53 yards on seven catches. The Raiders play the Chargers on Thursday Night Football.
