Aaron Jones Joins Division Rival Vikings
In an absolutely stunning move after a crazy 24 hours, which included Green Bay signing Pro Bowl back Josh Jacobs to a four-year deal, they released beloved franchise legend Aaron Jones.
What is now even more stunning is that Jones has now agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the arch-rival Minnesota Vikings. This shocking move comes after Green Bay tried to ask jones to take a 50% pay cut, per Matt Schneidman. He declined as is now headed to Minnesota, who is trying to find their way back to contention after their former quarterback in Kirk Cousins left for Atlanta.
Aaron Jones is not the first Packer to leave for Minnesota. Brett Favre famously did that back in 2009 after a stint with the New York Jets. Greg Jennings made a similar move in 2013. Additionally, Robert Ferguson, Ryan Longwell, Darren Sharper, and Desmond Bishop were other older, former Packers players that bolted for Minnesota. More recently, the likes of Za’Darius Smith, Dean Lowry, and Chandon Sullivan all felt that revenge was a good idea too.
Despite losing Jones, Green Bay is still in a good spot after adding the two-time Pro-Bowler in Josh Jacobs. Minnesota, however, is in a weird situation. Despite signing Sam Darnold to a one-year deal, the Vikings have a lot more uncertainty about where they are going. They lose Cousins to Atlanta and Justin Jefferson is in the last year of his deal. Signing a 29-year-old, injury-prone back in Jones was a really interesting decision. Both for Minnesota and for the Packers-Vikings rivalry.
