A Preview of Week 9 Browns vs. Chargers

On Sunday November 3rd ,2024, the Cleveland Browns will be hosting the Los Angeles Chargers for a week 9 matchup. The Chargers have a new Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. He will be returning to the state of Ohio after winning a National Championship at the University of Michigan. The Cleveland Browns roster remained stable from 2023 to 2024, while the Los Angeles Chargers underwent changes to their roster.

Late last season the Chargers fired their head coach Brandon Staley after an embarrassing loss to the Las Vegas Raiders 63-21. The Chargers also released wide receiver Mike Williams, linebacker Eric Kendricks, running backs Brevin Allen, Ty Shelby, and Andrew Farmer. A lot of new faces on the Chargers, but they still have their franchise quarterback Justin Herbert.

Justin Herbert has a career completion percentage of 66.6%,17,233 yards, 114 touchdowns, 42 interceptions, and a 95.7 quarterback rating. His record against the Browns is 2-0 with 626 yards, 5 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 107.9. He has dominated the Cleveland Browns defense. But this is not the same old Browns defense.

In 2023 the Cleveland Browns had the top ranked defense in the NFL. At home they were generationally dominant. With 9 of the 11 starters of the Browns 2023 defense returning and second year defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz settling even more into his role. This can be a long day for the Chargers offense and Justn Herbert.

If the Cleveland Browns consider themselves a contending team, they need to win at home. Especially winnable games at home. This is the last game going into the bye week. Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski has record of 3-1 after the bye week. So going into the bye week with win would be huge for this team’s playoff push.  And that playoff push would start in November.
