A look at the Tyler Guyton vs. Myles Garrett Week 1 matchup

On Sunday September 8th .2024, at 4:25 pm eastern time, the Cleveland Browns will host the Dallas Cowboys to start the 2024 season. Both teams made the playoffs in 2023. This game has intriguing matchups to watch. One of them is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett against the highly touted first round draft pick rookie offensive tackle Tyler Guyton.

Left tackle Tyler Guyton was the 29th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.  The 22-year-old 6’8” 322 lbs. prospect from TCU was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. Myles Garrett was the number one overall draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and is on pace to having a Pro Football Hall of Fame career. The question is Dallas willing to leave Guyton on an island to block Garrett in passing situations.

The 2023 Cleveland Browns defense was ranked at the top of the NFL. At home playing in Huntington Bank Field the Cleveland Browns defense was dominate in 2023. The cornerstone of that defense is Browns Defensive End Myles Garrett. So, this matchup during the game could determine the outcome of the game. Dak Prescott will not be able to make plays will being planted on his backside with no time to throw. This could be a welcome to the NFL moment for Tyler Guyton.

Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is also the reigning 2023 NFL Assistant Coach of the Year. His aggressive defensive play calling paid dividends for the Browns in 2023. I would not expect him to change for this game. Tyler Guyton is going to have to be ready to matchup against an elite NFL pass rusher. He was drafted last April by the Cowboys for that reason.  It is an early test for the young man in his young career. Which is why football fans will be interested in watching this unfold next Sunday.
