5 Offensive Gems Who Shined in Week 3 of Preseason Action

Even though the preseason is ending, offensive and defensive gems who shined will continue to be a staple series on Fans First Sports Network.

In this third segment, two wide receivers, two running backs, and a quarterback top the list.

TITANS WR BRYCE OLIVER:

During his time at Youngstown State University, wide receiver Bryce Oliver posted 2,065 receiving yards on 147 receptions and 26 touchdowns. The 24-year-old undrafted rookie is looking to make an NFL roster and his third preseason showing may have helped his case.

Oliver caught three receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints. During the preseason, Oliver finished with 8 receptions on 11 targets, 90 total yards and two touchdowns. His most recent performance may not be enough for a spot on the 53-man roster due to the depth at the wide receiver position, but it will help him make the practice squad or even get picked up by another NFL franchise in the coming weeks.

BEARS RB VELUS JONES JR.:

When the Chicago Bears drafted Velus Jones Jr. in the third-round of the 2022 NFL Draft, they hoped that he could create a spark on offense and help a struggling franchise. After the results were very lackluster, the Bears’ coaching staff decided to move him to running back and he has played much better, all while learning on the fly.

Jones Jr. rushed on 13 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown; he also added two receptions for 11 yards and hopes that this most recent position switch can benefit him in more ways than one.

PANTHERS QB JACK PLUMMER:

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jack Plummer started the preseason off on the wrong foot. The 6-foot-5 215-pound signal-caller from Louisville struggled early on during his Panthers tenure but has settled in nicely over the last two weeks.

In their most recent game, Plummer went 21/29 for 278 passing yards and two touchdowns.

JETS RB ISRAEL “IZZY” ABANIKANDA:

Last year’s fifth-round draft selection Israel Abanikanda hopes that his explosive 45-yard run on Saturday evening was just enough to continue to be give him more chances in the near future.

Abanikanda finished with 9 carries for 83 rushing yards and a touchdown. In his short NFL career, the 21-year-old youthful back carried the football 22 times for 70 rushing yards and caught an additional 7 receptions for 43 yards.

CHARGERS WR DERIUS DAVIS:

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis played sparingly last season as he was just a rookie fourth-round draft pick. Davis’ 5-foot-8 165-pound body frame might make teams a bit nervous of his play-making and durability; however, the former TCU receiver showed everyone that height does not matter during the final preseason outing against the Dallas Cowboys.

Davis took a reverse 70-yards for a touchdown and showed his elite speed and vision when running the football.

While he may not have the size that many look for in a receiver, he has a shiftiness to him and elite speed that makes up for it.
