4th ranked Ohio State Defeats 3rd ranked Penn State, 20-13
On Saturday the 4th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Happy Valley Pennsylvania to play the 3rd ranked Penn State Nittany Lions. Penn State went into this game undefeated with a 7-0 record. The Buckeyes record before this game was 6-1. The only loss for Ohio State was last month in Oregon 32-31. Ohio State needed to win this game to keep their conference and national championship hopes alive.
Penn State took and early 1st quarter lead 10-0 after a Will Howard interception was returned for a touchdown by Penn State defensive back Zion Tracy. Howard was quick to bounce back and lead two touchdown scoring drives to give Ohio State the halftime lead of 14-10. In the second half Ohio State kept their lead throughout the 3rd and 4th quarters. Penn State was able to kick a field goal and Ohio State answered with two field goals of their own. The biggest play of the game for Ohio State was on defense in the fourth quarter.
With about 5 minutes to play in the game Penn State drove down to the Ohio State 1-yard line. The drive set up a 4th and goal on the 1-yard line. The Ohio State defense stopped Penn State from scoring and the Ohio State offense took over on downs. The Ohio State offense was able to rely on their running game to kill the clock and drive the ball 60 yards to win the game.
Next Saturday, with game time to be determined, the Ohio State Buckeyes will host the Purdue Boilermakers in Columbus. The win over Penn State on the road was a big win during a time when the season was in doubt for Ohio State. The Buckeyes need to continue winning next week or that big conference win on the road will be for nothing.
