3 reasons to be optimistic about the 2024 Cleveland Browns

This week the Cleveland Browns made their way back to Berea Ohio to resume 2024 training camp. The previous 2 weeks the Browns held their training camp at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs West Virginia. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was pleased to get the team’s work in at the resort.  As the team gets closer to their season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on September 8th, Browns fans have at least three reasons to be optimistic about their favorite team.

The first reason for fans to be optimistic is the defense. Last year’s top ranked defense is retuning all but one starter. Linebacker Sione Taki Taki left for free agency and was replaced by Super Bowl Champion linebacker Jordan Hicks. Hicks is believed to be an upgrade at that position. He played under Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in Philadelphia, and he is familiar with Schwartz’s system. And this the second year with Schwartz as defensive coordinator.

The second reason to be optimistic is the rapid recovery from injuries by both quarterback Deshaun Watson and running back Nick Chubb. Early reports from training camp are saying that Watson looks sharp in team drills, and he is throwing the ball with velocity. It has also been reported that Nick Chubb is ahead of schedule in his rehab from his knee injury.  Chubb is still on the active / PUP list, which means he is still unable to perform. But he could be available for game 1 this season. Chubb was witnessed running drills and making cuts with no issues. Nick Chubb could be ready for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

The third and final reason for Browns fans to be optimistic this season is the Cleveland Browns organization. The Browns front office has done a masterful job managing the salary cap. They were able to restructure contracts and guaranteed money to establish one of the best rosters in the NFL. This could have not been done without the owner willing to outspend the league by over $50 million dollars. Will this be money well spent? It would be considered well spent with winning a championship. And that is not being too optimistic.
