NFL Thursday Night Football: Best Bets for Tampa Bay Bucs at Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons will host the Tampa Bay Bucs on Thursday Night Football to begin Week 5.
Atlanta will enter as a small favorite at 1.5 points at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The Falcons will come in off a hard-fought victory against the New Orleans Saints last week. The Bucs dominated the Philadelphia Eagles in Tampa and will now be back on the road after a hot start.
The quarterback matchup will be exciting on Thursday. Kirk Cousins has led the Falcons this season but has not hit his stride with a new team just yet. Baker Mayfield has thrown eight touchdowns to just two interceptions this season and is making his contract worth it.
It is an NFC South battle to kick off the week between two teams that will be looking to gain an advantage. Below, check out some best bets and leans for the contest.
Best Bet: Under 44.5
Mayfield has led a consistent offensive attack for Tampa Bay but it has not been hitting the big plays down the field. This is an offense that can pick apart defenses and wear them down. On the other side, the Falcons defense has not given up major yardage. Cousins has struggled against the blitz and a Todd Bowles defense likes to get after the quarterback. This points to this game being an under.
Lean: Bucs +2
The Falcons have yet to figure it out just yet. Kyle Pitts has been nonexistent within the offense and Bijan Robinson has not fully gotten going on the ground. Atlanta has been splitting carries in the backfield while the Bucs have been clicking early. Expect Mayfield to have a slight advantage against that Falcon defense while the Bucs make it difficult for Cousins. The only danger is that Robinson gets going tonight but either way, Tampa as a dog on the road can be a strong play.
Best Props
Bijan Robinson over 24.5 receiving yards: The Falcons might be splitting carries at times in the backfield but Robinson has been used in the pass game. Tampa Bay has been shutting down the run this season but has allowed 26 or more yards to five different backs in just four games.
Chris Godwin over 5.5 catches: Godwin has been a possession receiver over the course of his career and that has continued this season. Mayfield has been looking for Godwin on intermediate routes early. Atlanta’s improved secondary has not allowed big-time numbers to wide outs this season. Avoid the yardage for Godwin and take the catches.
