NFC East Round Up: Week 2

Week 2 is in the books, and the NFC East had a rough showing—except for one team. The Washington Commanders were the lone winners from the division. The Cowboys got blown out, the Eagles seemed determined to lose, and the Giants found themselves just a kicker away from victory. Let’s break down what happened with each team.

Washington Commanders (1-1)

Let’s start with the division-leading Commanders. After two weeks, they’re sitting in the driver’s seat. Washington edged out the Giants 21-18, largely due to an unfortunate injury to the Giants’ kicker. Rookie QB Jayden Daniels had a solid performance, completing 23 of 29 passes for 226 yards while adding 44 rushing yards on 10 carries. It’s always nice to get that first win, especially at home. Veteran TE Zach Ertz contributed four catches for 62 yards—still making plays, even if it’s with a division rival. On the downside, the Commanders’ defense allowed Daniel Jones to look competent, and they gave up 5.9 yards per rush. While a win is a win, it was against the Giants. Next up, Washington faces the Bengals on Monday Night Football.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

The Eagles suffered a brutal loss on Monday night, leaving their fans asking the familiar question: Are we headed for another late-season collapse? Defensively, they couldn’t figure out how to stop the run and failed to pressure one of the most immobile quarterbacks in the league, who’s coming off an Achilles tear. Offensively, they looked decent but struggled to convert red-zone opportunities into touchdowns, settling for field goals instead. They’ll have a massive challenge ahead, facing the red-hot New Orleans Saints next week.

Dallas Cowboys (1-1)

The Cowboys got demolished by the Saints in a game where they were playing catch-up from the start. As a result, they became one-dimensional early on. The Cowboys rushed just 21 times for 68 yards—not nearly enough. Dak Prescott finished 27-of-39 for 293 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. While Dak didn’t get much help, the front office deserves some criticism for not surrounding him with more weapons. CeeDee Lamb remains the focal point of this offense, but someone else needs to step up if Dallas wants to stay competitive. Defensively, they couldn’t contain Alvin Kamara, who gashed them for 115 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, plus 65 receiving yards and another score. The D-line managed just one sack and one QB hit. The Cowboys will need to regroup fast as they prepare to host the Ravens.

New York Giants (0-2)

We’ve already touched on the Giants’ loss, but let’s focus on one of the bright spots: Malik Nabers. The rookie wideout looks like a budding star, hauling in 10 catches for 127 yards and a touchdown. Devin Singletary also showed promise, rushing 16 times for 95 yards and a score. Unfortunately for New York, a kicker injury cost them the game. The defense had its struggles too, allowing Washington to average 6.1 yards per carry. With no wins through two weeks, the Giants’ outlook is concerning. Their next test comes on the road against Cleveland.
