Jared McCain impresses early in NBA Summer League

The NBA Summer League is underway, and Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain is already impressing the masses. The former Duke guard, who was the 16th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, made his Summer League debut on Monday night in the 2024 Salt Lake City Summer League against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he immediately got down to business.

Getting the start at guard, McCain had 15 points on 6/15 shooting, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals all in 27 minutes. While his 3 point shot was not falling for him (he was 0/6 on the evening), he was able to get to the basket and score in many other ways, helping the Sixers to a 102-92 win.

The Sixers were right back at it last night, taking on the Memphis Grizzlies. Earning the start again, McCain finally was able to get his shot to fall from deep. He made a trio of 3 pointers on the night, including back-to-back 3s at one point.

In 22 minutes, he finished with 12 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal as the Sixers fell to the Grizzles, 87-85.

Jared McCain is quickly endearing himself to a Sixers fanbase that loves players who work hard and hustle while on the court. Throwing his body all over to collect rebounds, loose balls, and steals, McCain was able to create a ton of opportunities on the ball. In game one, he was showing his ability to drive the lane and create points, just as he did during his freshman season at Duke. In game two, the range was on display, as his three made baskets were all threes, including a couple that occurred in transition.

Throughout it all, he’s playing with a smile, showing the personality that made him a fan favorite at Cameron Indoor Stadium. He hopes his work ethic can help him continue to improve as the Summer League season rolls on.

The Philadelphia 76ers move to Las Vegas this weekend for the start of the NBA 2K25 Summer League. Their first game in Vegas will be against the Detroit Pistons, with follow-up games against the Portland Trailblazers, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the San Antonio Spurs. Games will be featured on ESPN, ESPN2, and NBA TV, which will allow McCain fans to continue to see him play, and hopefully thrive, during the rest of the Summer League slate.
