Could Mike Vrabel Replace Ryan Day at Ohio State?

Last Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio the Michigan Wolverines upset the Ohio State Buckeyes at the horseshoe 13-10. Ohio State went into this game a 23-point favorite and was considered a national championship contender. Michigan played their best game of the season against Ohio State and Ohio State played their worst game against Michigan. It was Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Day’s fourth consecutive loss to Michigan, this is unacceptable to Buckeyes fans. The hot seat for Ryan Day just got a lot hotter.

Recently Ohio State Athletic Director Ross Bjork said that “Ryan Day isn’t going anywhere”. He spoke at the Buckeye Breakfast, and he said that “Our full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run”. The Buckeyes have yet to officially have clinched a playoff spot with conference championship games this coming weekend. The College Football Playoffs are scheduled to begin on December 20th.  Ohio State focusing on the playoffs doesn’t mean that they won’t make offseason changes. The next question is that who could replace Ryan Day as the Ohio State head coach?

My theory with no inside information on the situation is the current Cleveland Browns advisor and former Ohio State Buckeye Mike Vrabel could be the next head coach for Ohio State. He is an Ohio State alumnus, and he was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans. He was also an Ohio State assistant coach from 2011-2013. Currently he is working for the Cleveland Browns in an advisory role. A lot can happen between now and the college football offseason. But Ryan Day has the recent vote of confidence from the Ohio State Athletic Director. That could change at any time especially if this team under performs in the College Football Playoffs. Or if he fails to beat Michigan in 2025.
