Cavs win streak ends in loss to Celtics, 120-117
On Tuesday November 19th the 15-0 Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to Boston Massachusetts to play the 11-3 Boston Celtics at the TD Garden. This is the Cavaliers second game of the NBA Cup in season tournament. Cleveland was trying to add to their 15-game win streak to open their season. Currently their start is tied for the second-best start in NBA history. They were tied with the 1994 Houston Rockets. The Golden State Warriors of 2015 had a 24-game win streak to start their season. Can the Cavaliers continue their historic run in 2024?
In the first quarter the Celtics outscored the Cavaliers 26-20. It was the second quarter when the Celtics had a run and led at halftime 65-48. In the third quarter the Cavaliers weren’t going away quietly. They chipped away at the Celtics lead and trailed at the end of third quarter 93-88. In the fourth quarter the Cavaliers came within 2 points, but the Celtics held on to end the Cavaliers 15 game win streak 120-117. The Cavaliers are now 15-1 to start the 2024/2025 season.
The leading scorer for the Cavaliers was Donovan Mitchell with 35 points in 40 minutes. Jarett Allen and Evan Mobley each had double-doubles again. Allen had 10 pints and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes. Mobley had 22 points and 11 rebounds in 38 minutes. Also, the Cavaliers had 6 different players with double digit scoring in this game. Up next for the 15-1 Cleveland Cavaliers is the 4-10 New Orleans Pelicans in Cleveland on Wednesday night November 20th, at 7:30 pm EST at the Rocket Mortgage Field House. With back-to-back games after coming off a loss is an adversity test for this team. Wil they be able to bounce back? We will have to wait and see.
