Cavs win 15th in a row, Beat the Hornets, 128-114
On Sunday November 17th the 14-0 Cleveland Cavaliers hosted the 5-7 Charlotte Hornets at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. For the Cavaliers Sam Merrill was out due to an ankle injury. Donovan Mitchell did not play in this game for rest. Evan Mobley has been day to day with an illness. Mobley did play against the Hornets. For the Hornets both LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges were questionable for the game but played. Daquan Jeffries, Tre Mann, Nick Richards, and Mark Williams were out that night in Cleveland for the Hornets. The Cavaliers were trying to add to their franchise record breaking 14 game win streak to start the season. It was possible to keep happening, but will it?
The Cavaliers were without their leading scorer Donovan Mitchell and that didn’t slow them down in the first quarter. They stormed out to lead the Hornets 38-28. In the second quarter the Cavaliers continued to do what they do best and that is outscore and outpace their opponent. At halftime the Cavaliers led the Hornets by a score of 72-59. The Hornets did make a run in the third quarter, but the Cavaliers held on and ended the quarter with a 102-99 lead. In the fourth quarter the Cavaliers defense stepped up and held Charlotte to 15 points to pull away for their 15th consecutive win 128-114.
The Cavaliers’ leading scorer was Darius Garland with 25 points in 30 minutes. Both Evan Mobley and Jarett Allen had double-doubles. Mobley had 23 points and 11 rebounds in 34 minutes. Allen had 21 points and 15 rebounds in 31 minutes. The Cavaliers had 5 players with double digit scoring. Again, this was a team effort for the win. Up next for the 15-0 Cleveland Cavaliers is a trip to Boston Massachusetts on Tuesday night at 7 pm eastern time to face the 11-3 Boston Celtics. This game will be the biggest test for this team’s winning streak. The question is, will they pass or fail that test?
