Nationals To Promote Baseball’s No. 3 Prospect Dylan Crews
The Washington Nationals are expected to call up baseball’s number three prospect Dylan Crews to make his MLB debut on Monday when Washington takes on the New York Yankees at Nats Park.
Crews rose quickly through the prospect rankings after being drafted number two overall out of LSU. Before his Tigers teammate Paul Skenes broke onto the scene, Crews was considered the undisputed number one pick in that draft class.
While at LSU Crews slashed .380/.489/.689 with 58 home runs and 184 RBI in three seasons. In his final season as a Tiger, Crews hit .426 with 18 home runs and 70 RBI while winning the Golden Spikes Award and leading LSU to its seventh national championship.
This season across both AA and AAA Crews is hitting .272 with 13 homers and 68 RBIs in 99 games.
Dylan Crews will join a Nationals team that sits at just 58-70, 12.5 games back of the first-place Phillies in the NL East and 10.5 games back of the Braves for the final Wild Card spot.
Ironically, Crews gets called up when the Nats take on the Yankees and former Washington outfielder Juan Soto right when the return of that trade starts to impact the big league team.
Crews joins an outfield that saw James Wood make his MLB debut earlier this season as Washington finally starts to see their future core come together.
The Wood/Crews outfield will join shortstop CJ Abrams and pitcher Mackenzie Gore to form the Nationals core of key players they will try to once again win with in the near future.
Washington has not yet confirmed the news of Crews’ call up but it’s looking like it will be five weeks of experience for someone who is set to be a key feature of the core future in the nation’s capitol.
