Mr. Unlimited Arrives: Steelers’ Offense Thrives Under Wilson

Let me start with this: 500 yards of total offense. Yes, you read that right—500 yards in a single game. Not too long ago, the Steelers might’ve needed two games to hit that mark. But thanks to Russell Wilson, the Steelers’ offense looks like the real deal.

For the first time since Ben Roethlisberger hung up his cleats, the Steelers have an “adult in the room”—someone who commands the offense with confidence and authority. No shade to Isaac Seumalo—he’s a quiet, solid veteran and leader—but Russell Wilson brings something different. He’s loud, he’s in control, and he knows exactly what needs to be done. Watching him run the offense against the Bengals felt like a throwback to the glory days of Steelers football, with Big Ben tearing defenses apart.

Wilson wasn’t just good—he was UNLIIIIIMITED. He finished the day 29-of-38 for 414 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. About that interception, though… let me vent for a second. George Pickens stumbled off the line, then got dragged down by the back of his helmet. The defender stayed on his feet, grabbed the easiest pick-six of his life, and somehow no flag was thrown. Absolute nonsense.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s get back to the good stuff. What made this performance so special wasn’t just the numbers—it was the way Wilson completely controlled the offense and left the Bengals’ defense scrambling for answers. This wasn’t about a few lucky deep balls or busted coverages, either. The Steelers didn’t have a single play over 50 yards, yet eight different receivers had catches of 20+ yards. In fact, ten different players recorded a catch in the game. Talk about spreading the wealth! Russ put on a clinic—consistent, methodical, and downright beautiful.

The most impressive part? Wilson’s pre-snap brilliance. Running back Najee Harris even noted that the game plan was to lean on the run game, but Wilson had other ideas after reading the Bengals’ defense. The Steelers coaching staff can feel comfortable with allowing Russ to have full autonomy of the offense, and the 10 other players in the huddle have full confidence in Russ’ ability to lead them. Time after time, he had the offense ready to go with 15+ seconds left on the play clock. That gave him plenty of time to read the defense, figure out the coverage, identify blitzes, and adjust the play accordingly. He audibled, changed routes, shifted protections, and pinpointed mismatches like a seasoned pro. It was the kind of performance we haven’t seen in Pittsburgh since Big Ben was at his peak—the type of play you expect from a 10+ year, Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

Yes, the Bengals’ defense isn’t great. But let’s not downplay what the Steelers did—they shredded them like no one else has all season. Wilson and the offense made it look easy, drive after drive, delivering one of the best performances we’ve seen from this team in years.

This game feels like more than just an offensive explosion, it felt like a warning shot to the rest of the league (I’ll take my 15 yard personal foul). The Steelers have already proven they can win ugly games with defense and special teams. Now, they’ve shown they can keep pace with any offense in the NFL.

If this is what the Steelers can do with Russell Wilson under center, the rest of the league better watch out. The Steelers are getting danger-RUSS, and “Mr. Unlimited” might just be the key to it all.
