Motor City Machine Guns Win WWE Tag Team Championship

Sometimes, it takes over 20 years to become an overnight sensation.

The Motor City Machine Guns won the WWE tag team championship last night on Smackdown in their second week in the company.

The fact that they even wrestle for WWE is a triumph. I used to announce Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s matches in the independent leagues over 20 years ago.

Despite their talent, it never seemed like WWE would hire them, and they would forever be typecast as “indy guys” due to their size.

That all changed last night when they defeated #DIY to win the No. 1 contenders’ tournament.

RAISING THE STAKES

The Bloodline came out with the tag team titles, and Solo Sikoa suggested that the title match between the Guns and Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa should take place right now.

Solo should have learned from Uncle Yokozuna at WrestleMania IX that impromptu title matches are not a good idea. Jey Uso helped the Guns win the WWE tag team title.

After the match, Jey Uso reunited with twin brother Jimmy Uso, while Original Tribal Chief Roman Reigns looked on approvingly.

US champion LA Knight ruined “Game 7” between Carmelo Hayes and Andrade. As special referee, Knight attacked both wrestlers.

Predictably, Knight must defend his title against Hayes and Andrade in a Triple Threat match at Crown Jewel on Nov. 2 in Saudi Arabia.

OTHER ACTION AND TALK

Triple H, who runs WWE these days, talked with Randy Orton to open the show. HHH tried to protect Orton from the unhinged Kevin Owens, but Orton wouldn’t listen. So the Orton-Owens match is on for Crown Jewel.

Speaking of that show, Gunther and Cody Rhodes talked about their match for the Crown Jewel title. Liv Morgan and Nia Jax will have a similar conversation next week.

Naomi defeated Candice LeRae. All three General Managers agreed on a four-way match for the WWE women’s tag team title at Crown Jewel.

In that match, Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill will defend their belts against Chelsea Green & Piper Niven, Jakara Jackson & Lash Legend, and Kairi Sane & Iyo Sky.
