The NLCS has been a series of haymakers by the Dodgers and Mets

If you’re looking for some sports thrills and excitement, the 2024 National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and Mets has not been the place or thing for you.

What do you think comedian Jerry Seinfeld was doing during Game 1 between Los Angeles and New York at Dodgers Stadium on October 13? I hope he didn’t record it while doing one of his standup gigs. If Seinfeld rushed home to watch it while also avoiding talking to anyone about the results, do you think his next-door neighbor, Kramer, ruined it for him by letting the cat right out of the bag the second he barged into his apartment? If that happened, Kramer did Seinfeld a favor. Why? Because Game 1 wasn’t worth taping; the Dodgers won in convincing fashion by a score of 9-0.

The Metropolitans got right back on the horse in Game 2 and rode that sucker to a 7-3 win to tie the series at one game apiece. Actually, the contest wasn’t even as close as the score indicated; New York jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on the strength of a Francisco Lindor solo blast in the top of the first and a grand slam by Mark Vientos in the second inning.

The Mets did what they had to do at Dodgers Stadium. They split the first two games and now had a chance to get to the World Series by sweeping LA at Citi Field in Queens, New York, baby! Did Seinfeld, Kramer and Newman go to Game 3? If so, do you think they painted their faces? If they did, they probably looked like clowns by the end of the night, as Los Angeles ran away with an easy 8-0 victory. Teoscar Hernandez, Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy each hit solo shots to power the Dodgers offense and give their team a 2-1 lead in the series.

Ohtani homered again on Thursday night in Game 4 of the NLCS, as the Dodgers again won convincingly–this time by a score of 10-2–to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

After such awful performances in back-to-back home games, do you think Seinfeld even bothered to thank Alec Berg for the tickets, secretly hoping he’d offer him some for Game 5? Why didn’t Jerry buy his own tickets? He’s worth like a billion dollars. I mean, this isn’t a sitcom. Anyway, I don’t know if Seinfeld and the boys were at Game 5 on Friday night in New York, but if they were, they watched the Mets stay alive by jumping out to a 10-2 lead through four innings before holding on for a 12-6 victory.

Los Angeles now holds a 3-2 lead in the series with Game 6 set for Sunday night at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

Will there ever be a dramatic moment in the 2024 National League Championship Series between the Dodgers and Mets, or will it continue to be as anticlimactic as the series finale of Seinfeld?

Stay tuned.
