Tanner Bibee Dominates as Cleveland Guardians Beat Seattle Mariners 8-0

After three straight Guardians losses, radio announcer Tom Hamilton called on starter Tanner Bibee to pitch a shutout.

Bibee had some help, but he did it.

Bibee (5-2) and four relievers only gave up three hits and struck out 14 batters in an 8-0 rout of the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.

Josh Naylor kick-started the Cleveland offense in the first inning, as he singled to score Steven Kwan.

In the second inning, Kwan slammed a two-run homer off the right-field foul pole to increase the Guardians’ lead to 3-0. Kwan is batting .397.

Jose Ramirez has recently become the master of the infield single. He did it again to score Andres Gimenez in the fifth.

IT’S NAYLOR NIGHT

Josh Naylor came up next with a two-run homer to put Cleveland on top 6-0.

Bo Naylor made it 7-0 in the sixth inning with a single to score Daniel Scheemann.

Josh hit another home run in the eighth, a 404-footer to center field, to give him 19 for the season.

Both Naylor brothers had been struggling at the plate, but they went 5-for-8 with five RBI.

Cleveland also excelled at baserunning, with steals by Ramirez, Gimenez, and Schneemann. Ramirez and Gimenez each have 12 steals this season.

On the mound, Bibee whiffed a career-high 12 Mariners in six innings before turning the ball over to Scott Barlow, Hunter Gaddis, and Emmanuel Clase in a rare non-save situation.

Cleveland will try to win the series today at 1:10 p.m. Logan Allen (7-3) will start for the Guardians against Luis Castillo (6-7). Despite the difference in their records, Castillo has the lower ERA by almost two runs.
