Philadelphia Phillies Overwhelm Cleveland Guardians with Seven-Run Inning
After playing like Little Leaguers on Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies remembered that they were the best team in baseball with an 8-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.
Carlos Carrasco may have reached the end of the line as a starter for the Cleveland Guardians. With Logan Allen and Triston McKenzie in the minors, it’s hard to justify keeping Carrasco with his 3-9 record and 5.68 ERA.
This is especially true with the trade deadline looming and former Detroit starter Michael Boyd about to return from an injury to debut in the Cleveland rotation.
THE WHEELS FALL OFF
Carrasco was matching zeroes with Phillies starter Tyler Phillips for three innings before disaster struck in the fourth.
Philadelphia sent 10 batters to the plate, scored seven runs, and hit three homers in the fourth inning.
Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh went deep off Carrasco, and Kyle Schwarber connected off Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin.
In the sixth, Nick Castellanos hit a solo homer off Pedro Avila to put Philly ahead 8-0.
Phillips (3-0) tossed a four-hit shutout, as the Guardians offense sputtered again. Josh Naylor has not played yet in the Philly series.
So when Cleveland looks for talent before Tuesday’s trade deadline, a hitter should be on the shopping list along with a starting pitcher.
The deciding game of the series will start today at 1:35 p.m. Hawaii native Joey Cantillo will debut for the Guardians against Kolby Allard.
Cleveland was supposed to face All-Star Ranger Suarez, but the Phillies placed him on the injured list.
