Name That Ramirez: Jose Ties Manny as Cleveland Guardians Collect 50th Win

Round numbers can be fun in baseball. Jose Ramirez has 20 home runs, and the Cleveland Guardians have 50 wins.

Kicking off a seven-day road trip, the Guardians defeated the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 for their sixth win in a row.

Jose Ramirez also tied Manny Ramirez for third place on Cleveland’s all-time home run list with 236. Albert Belle is in sight at 242, with Jim Thome on top at 337.

He put the Guardians on the board in the first inning with a single to score Steven Kwan.

Baltimore responded in the bottom of the first when Ryan O’Hearn singled to drive in Gunnar Henderson.

Cleveland regained the lead in the second inning on a Bo Naylor double that scored Gabriel Arias.

Orioles slugger Anthony Santander hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Adley Rutschman and tie the game 2-2.

Ramirez put Cleveland ahead to stay in the sixth inning, clobbering a 431-shot to center field off Baltimore starter Cade Povich (0-2).

YOUR UNSUNG HEROES

As usual, Cleveland’s pitching staff made the win possible, as Tanner Bibee delivered another solid start. He struck out seven batters in six innings to improve his record to 6-2.

Tim Herrin and Hunter Gaddis kept the Orioles off the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth innings. Scott Barlow struck out the side in the ninth for his second save.

The series will continue tonight at 6:35, with Logan Allen (8-3) starting for Cleveland against Cole Irvin for the Birds in a battle of left-handers.
