Baltimore Orioles Bash Their Way to Series Split with Cleveland Guardians

The Baltimore Orioles pounded out a 9-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon, but pitching help is on the way.

After losing on Thursday and Friday, the Orioles evened the score over the weekend.

Give the Guardians’ hitters credit; they were the first team to score five runs off Orioles All-Star starting pitcher Corbin Burnes all season.

The Orioles jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an RBI double by Ryan O’Hearn in the first inning off Gavin Williams (1-4).

Baltimore expanded the lead to 3-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Adley Rutschman and a single by Eloy Jimenez.

Cleveland brought home two runs in the bottom of the third. Steven Kwan singled in a run and scored later on a throwing error by Burnes.

BIG BALTIMORE BATS

In the fourth, Jackson Holliday and Gunnar Henderson homered to put the O’s ahead 6-2.

But the Guardians didn’t give up. Josh Naylor hit a three-run bomb in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-5.

However, the rest of the game was all Baltimore, as the Orioles scored two in the sixth and one in the eighth to put the game away.

PITCHERS TO THE RESCUE

The Guardians have some help coming to their pitching staff. Logan Allen will be back from the minors to start tonight’s game against the National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

Triston McKenzie has also looked impressive in the minors, so he could return. Sam Hentges will eventually come back from his injury to help the bullpen.

Don’t forget, Cleveland picked up Michael Boyd and Alex Cobb in trades from San Francisco. Both of them are rehabbing their injuries and will eventually join the starting rotation.
