Midseason Favorites For 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year Awards

The 2024-25 NFL season has reached its midpoint and that means rookies have some experience under their belts.

There are many first-year players making an impact on both sides of the ball to this point. There has been plenty of film on each and that means predictions can be made about which players will take home awards this season.

Below, check out three options for both offensive and defensive awards.

Offensive Rookie of the Year Favorites

1. Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders

Is is possible to wrap this award up after nine games? Daniels has seem to have done just that — and did it weeks ago. Daniels has led the Commanders to a 7-2 start this season. He has turned the ball over just twice in his first nine career games. Not only is Daniels the big favorite to win this award, he is getting attention for MVP as well.

2. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

Nix might have been the quarterback looked over in this year’s draft being the fourth taken. He has played well under the guidance of Sean Payton to this point and it getting better each week. Nix does not have numbers that will jump off the page but has eight touchdowns and an ability to run the ball effectively.

3. Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

By default, Williams finds his name on this list but again, it is Daniels to lose. That comes to the chagrin of many Bears’ fans. Williams has fixed some of his turnover problems with just one interception over the last five games. And he is working behind a makeshift offensive line. Nonetheless, many believes he was entering the perfect situation in Chicago but that does not look like the case.

Defensive Rookie of the Year Favorites

1. Jared Verse, Los Angeles Rams

Verse is looking like a future star at the linebacker position. He has become one of the leaders of the Rams’ defense in his first season. He has 3.5 sacks over the first nine games of his career. He has become a nuisance for offenses to worry about early on.

2. Laiatu Latu, Indianapolis Colts

Latu has been a standout defensive end for the Colts early on. He has dominated one side of the defensive line. At 6-foot-5, Latu has the size and skill needed to dominate at the NFL level. He has 15 tackles and two sacks this season.

3. Quinyon Mitchell, Philadelphia Eagles

Mitchell has been the addition in the secondary that the Eagles hoped they were getting. He has 22 tackles and six pass defended this season. Philadelphia made it a priority to improve the secondary in the draft and Mitchell has played that part.
