Mets, Padres Push Dodgers, Phillies to Brink of Elimination

The National League playoffs are getting interesting, as the New York Mets and San Diego Padres have taken control.

They beat the Philadelphia Phillies (95 wins) and Los Angeles Dodgers (98 wins), respectively.

That means both underdogs have a chance to win Game 4 at home to knock out the top two seeds.

METS 7, PHILLIES 2

Sean Manaea held the Phillies’ All-Star-laden lineup to three hits in seven innings.

Pete Alonso whacked his third homer of the post-season, and Jesse Winker also connected off Phillies starter Aaron Nola.

The Mets already had a 6-0 lead by the time the Phillies got on the scoreboard with singles by Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos in the eighth inning.

It’s hilarious to see how the Mets fans have rallied around McDonald’s milkshake mascot Grimace. Ever since it threw out the first pitch at a Mets game, the team has been on fire.

Game 4 will be a battle of left-handers, as the Mets’ Jose Quintana (10-10) faces the Phillies’ Ranger Suarez (12-8). First pitch is at 5:08 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.

PADRES 6, DODGERS 5

San Diego scored all of its runs in the second inning off Walker Buehler after a Mookie Betts homer gave LA a 1-0 lead.

The big hits in the Padres rally were a two-run double by David Peralta and a two-run homer by Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Dodgers struck back in the third when Teoscar Hernandez hit a grand slam off Padres starter Michael King.

But King and four Padres relievers made the 6-5 score hold up for the rest of the game. Robert Suarez got the final four outs for the save.

Padres starter Dylan Cease (14-11) will try to knock out the Dodgers tonight in Game 4, which starts at 9:08 on Fox Sports 1. Los Angeles will pitch a bullpen game.
