Maryland Football Lands Top 2025 Recruiting Target

I would imagine that Maryland Head Coach Mike Locksley is somewhere with a nice scotch and cigar as he has 3 reasons to celebrate. This afternoon the Terps not only landed 3 recruits, but also received the commitment from there top target in the class of 2025.

Today the Terps received a commitment from there top target in the Class of 2025 QB Malik Washington and his high school teammate CB Jayden Shipps

Washington held offers from a long list of schools that included Oregon, Penn State, UCLA  and Texas A&M just to a few. Last week Washington announced his final 4 list that included Maryland, VA Tech, Syracuse and UCF and he would be announcing his choice today (6/28). The Terps and Coach Locksley worked hard for more then a year in trying to recruit the services of Washington, who is a local 4 star recruit from Severn, MD (Archbishop Spalding) grades as the #14 rated quarterback and the #180 player in the nation as well as being the #3 player in the state of Maryland. This is without a question Locksley’s most important commitment since becoming the head coach at Maryland.

Shipps didn’t have to go to far to make his commitment, as he and his high school teammate from Severn, MD (Archbishop Spalding) both announced there intentions to bring there talents to College Park. Shipps is a 3 star recruit and is the #32 ranked player in the state of Maryland. He held offers from quite a few schools including Indiana, Boston College, Michigan State and NC State just to name a few. He will play a major role in the secondary and figure to be a huge part of the Maryland defense.

The recruiting spree was not finished as the Terps added a third commitment of the the day in LB Travares Daniels II

Daniels II is a 3 star recruit from Florida and was ranked as the #125 LB and the #147 ranked player from the state of Florida. Daniels held offers from Colorado, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ole Miss just to name a few and he will be another player among a great line of LB’s to play at Maryland.

Today is the day that Maryland and Coach Locksley has been working towards since he was hired back in December 2018. Being a born and bread DMV guy himself, Coach Locksley understood the importance of recruiting in the DMV on your home turf. Year in and year out the best recruits in the DMV and there have been quite a few big time players that have left the area over the years, including most recently this years overall #1 pick Calab Williams who played his high school ball at Gonzaga College High School in DC. The local kids would just acknowledge the Maryland program and not really give the program a second thought. And it became the norm in and around the Football program, but the Terps have worked hard to change course and today Maryland got there guy in Washington, as he just not that guy, he is THE guy!.

Washington is a program changing quarterback who has the potential to be one of the greatest Terp’s of all time and could be mentioned in the same breath as Shawne Merriman, Vernon Davis, Kris Jenkins, Stefon Diggs, EJ Henderson. But more importantly, both Washington and Shipps are local homegrown and the mantra DMVtoUMD is one that is taking very seriously. What was once a pipe dream for Maryland recruiting is slowly but surely turning around as the Terp’s are not only getting acknowledged by local recruits, but are getting more and more official visits from the top talent in DMV and both recruits and coaches are taking notice.

The hope is that in particular Washington can attract the local prized recruits to stay home such as 5 star OT Immanuel Iheancho who is the #1 player in the state of Maryland and #3 player in Country. Maryland historically do not even get mentioned in the same breath as elite talent like Iheancho. There is more to come in the recruiting class of 2025 and we will keep an watchful eye on it for sure and the future is the brightest that it has been in many years. #DMVtoUMD is for real!!!
