Maple Leafs Sign Timothy Liljegren to a 2-Year Deal

The Maple Leafs and Liljegren are in agreement on a 2-year, $6M contract, with an AAV of $3M. His previous deal was worth $1.4M AAV.

First thoughts, this might be a little much. Liljegren just came off a season with injuries, and an overall down season for his standard. In my prediction, I thought he’d ink a 1 year deal worth just a little more than his previous cap hit. In my previous predictions article, I really thought he would only get a slight pay increase, I truly did not expect this high of a cap hit. Leafs management really must trust this player and have something up their sleeves.

Liljegren tied his personal best with 23 points in 55 contests with the Buds, seeing an average ice time of 19:40 per game; a career high. Lily didn’t see much time in the playoffs however, seeing as there were better options to roll out come the postseason. There were many defensive mishaps over the course of the season, leading fans to wonder what the Leafs could’ve done if they hadn’t signed Liljegren to this contract.

The Leafs look to heavily add defenders this offseason, so Liljegren provides additional insurance in case the Leafs don’t get who they’re looking for. At his cap hit I believe we could’ve gotten somebody that would impact this club a little bit more, so all we can hope for is that he reaches his full potential in this deal.
