Maple Leafs Sign 3 Players Ahead of Opening Night
On October 7th, Toronto signed forwards Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz, and defender Cade Webber to one-year, and two-year deals respectively. With the injuries affecting Toronto’s opening night lineup, these signings will give Toronto some relief instead of calling up players from the Marlies.
Max Pacioretty – 1x873k
We start off with the most notable name, and the player that many Leafs fans were excited about after his first preseason game. Max started his Leafs tenure with a PTO, after coming off yet another injury riddled season. Pacioretty’s new deal with Toronto carries a $873,300 cap hit, coming after a strong preseason with 2G, 1A in 2 GP.
Pacioretty’s new deal comes with an additional games played bonus that if reached, will affect the Leafs’ cap hit for next season.
Steven Lorentz – 1x775k
Lorentz is another player who attended training camp on a PTO, and he impressed Leafs fans when he was on the ice, giving the team hard shifts, keeping the fourth line energized, and even scoring in their final preseason game.
Lorentz penned a league minimum deal, giving Toronto strong options to solidify their fourth line, as well as having different options when you give Reaves the night off.
Cade Webber – 2x825k
Webber is an interesting one, as he has not seen many regular season NHL games with Toronto. The 6’7″ defender has a strong presense when he is on the ice, giving the defense some much needed size and strength.
Webber’s deal comes in as an extension on the deal he previously signed, signing for $50,000 less than his previous deal. Webber’s extension gives Toronto much needed depth on the backend, as well as a strong thrid pair option to shut the opposing offense down.
