Man City’s Rodri Out With Torn ACL

Sunday afternoon brought excitement for those around Manchester City as John Stones poked home the game-tying goal in the 8th minute of stoppage time to secure a point against Arsenal.

Monday however, didn’t bring as much excitement for the winners of four straight Premier League titles.

City’s star midfielder Rodri is likely to miss the remainder of the season with what is expected to officially be called a torn ACL.

Further testing will be done but all signs are pointing to a torn ACL for the Spaniard who will presumptively have surgery in Barcelona.

The tough news comes after Rodri went down in the 21st minute of City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in what was his first Premier League start of the season.

Rodri’s injury seemed to be either no or very minimal contact which is most of the time a severe ACL injury.

Manchester City sits with 15 points top the Premier League but will now obviously have a long way to go without their star midfielder.

Last season, Rodri was key for City as they won their fourth straight Premier League title. He was able to continue that success for Spain at Euro2024 where he was named the player of the tournament.

A rigorous schedule such as that led Rodri to say that players are “close to going on strike” over concerns about their workload.

With club and country, Rodri played in 63 games last season and has only missed eight games in his career.

Four of those games came early this season when Rodri was nursing a hamstring injury and Manchester City was still able to win them all.

City continues their Premier League schedule on Saturday when they take on New Castle United.

The four-time defending champs resume their Champions League slate next Tuesday when they travel to take on Slovan Bratislava.
