Magic Hope to Find “da Silva” Lining in Top Draft Pick

The Orlando Magic seem to be starting a German consulate in Central Florida. Their 18th overall draft pick was Colorado’s Tristan da Silva who was originally born in that country. Not only does da Silva share the same national heritage as incumbent teammates Franz and Moe Wagner, but he too is also listed as a forward.

According to Mo Wagner and forward Wendell Carter Junior, that’s not where the similarities end. When asked if he thought da Silva and his brother Franz shared some qualities, Mo confirmed, “He is a little bit like Franz, that is right. . . we’ve noticed that as well. He’s an incredible shooter, good dude; (we are) very excited for him to come in here too.”

After offering the rookie glowing praise for his new teammate, Mo did point out a humourous downside to adding a new German to the squad. “I’m excited to have another German here, (but) I got to watch my mouth around (him). Usually I can just talk smack with Franz and now there’s another German around so I have to watch out a little bit”.

Through all the shine and humor surrounding him at media day, the consistent trait that sentiment that kept coming up was da Silva is a hard worker. When asked about how he approaches being a student preparing himself for life as an NBA player, the rookie lit up. “I love that. I’m big on taking in every single day. Learning; picking stuff up from other guys. I’ll do that until I retire.”

Da Silva remarked that his versatility is a strength that can make him an asset quickly no matter what role head coach Jahmal Mosley puts him in.

Da Silva is hoping to carry the momentum he got blaming in a summer league game where he recorded 23 points (8-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 26 minutes during 91-86 win over the Pelicans back in July.
