Los Angeles Dodgers Overwhelm Cleveland Guardians with Six-Run First Inning

Some days, it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed.

That’s what the Cleveland Guardians must have thought when the Los Angeles Dodgers exploded for six runs in the first inning in a 7-2 win last night.

Gavin Williams (3-8) was the victim, as he didn’t make it out of the first inning.

Tommy Edman started the Dodgers’ party with a ground-rule double that scored two runs.

LA doubled the lead with a sacrifice fly by Gavin Lux and an RBI single by Miguel Rojas.

Angel Pages finished the onslaught with a two-run homer off reliever Pedro Avila.

So these weren’t big-name sluggers doing all of this damage.

A LOT OF BASEBALL TO PLAY

Cleveland scored both of its runs in the top of the second, when Lane Thomas hit his 10th homer to score David Fry.

The Dodgers tacked on another run in the fourth when Mookie Betts bashed his 16th homer of the year.

With a huge lead, this was the perfect day for the Dodgers to pitch a bullpen game, as they used a total of seven pitchers.

OUTLOOK IS STILL SUNNY

Cleveland still has a sparkling record of 81-61. Kansas City is 3½ games out of first place in the AL Central. Minnesota is five games behind the Guardians.

The series will conclude today at 4:10 p.m. The Guardians’ nemesis, Jack Flaherty, will start for the Dodgers after several dominant performances against Cleveland when he pitched for Detroit.

Cleveland will counter with its own ace, Tanner Bibee. Both pitchers have records of 11-6.

We’ll see if anyone pays attention to this game, as the Browns will open the season against the Dallas Cowboys at the same time.
