Los Angeles Dodgers Clinch NLCS Berth Over San Diego Padres

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and four relievers shut down the San Diego Padres in a 2-0 victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers last night.

As a result, the Dodgers will host the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night.

The Dodgers didn’t need the offensive heroics of Shohei Ohtani to win Game 5.

Ohtani went 0-for-4 and struck out three times. He hit .200 in the series.

Instead, LA rode to victory on solo home runs by Enrique Hernandez in the second inning and Teoscar Hernandez in the seventh.

PITCHING PROWESS

Yamamoto pitched five innings for the Dodgers and only gave up a pair of singles to Luis Arraez and Kyle Higashioka.

Blake Treinen pitched the ninth and got his second save of the series for the Dodgers, who retired the last 19 San Diego hitters.

Padres starter Yu Darvish was impressive as well. He only gave up three hits in 6 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers prevailed in a contentious series that saw San Diego left fielder Jurickson Profar rile up the LA fans by pretending that he didn’t catch a home run ball in Game 2.

The NLCS will start at 8:15 on Sunday night on Fox. The Mets will try to keep their miracle season going against the 98-win Dodgers.
