Lather, Rinse, Repeat: Freddie Freeman Homers in Los Angeles Dodgers Victory
If you’re a Los Angeles Dodgers fan, you don’t mind the repetition in the 2024 World Series.
Freddie Freeman homered for the third straight game as the Dodgers defeated the Yankees 4-2 last night.
New York is out of second chances. The Yankees need four straight wins to capture the World title.
No team has come back from a 3-0 deficit to win the World Series. The only team to do it in the postseason was the 2004 Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series, at the expense of the Yankees.
SECRET SAUCE
Again, outstanding pitching was the key to the Dodgers’ victory. Walker Buehler pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out five.
This is much more impressive when you remember that he was shutting down hitters like Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton.
Five Dodgers relievers kept the shutout going, as the Yankees were unable to score until the ninth.
READY FOR FREDDIE?
Freeman wasted no time as he blasted a two-run homer in the first inning off Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt.
Mookie Betts increased the lead to 3-0 in the third, when he singled to score Tommy Edman.
Enrique Hernandez singled to score Gavin Lux in the sixth inning, putting the Dodgers on top 4-0.
The Yankees cut the lead in half in the ninth on a two-run homer by Alex Verdugo. Michael Kopech recovered to finish off the Yankees.
Game 4 is set for tonight at 8:08 on Fox. Luis Gil will start for the Yankees, while the Dodgers will try to “bullpen game” their way to an eighth World title.
