Kris Statlander, PAC Advance as AEW Owen Hart Cup Tournaments Begin

All Elite Wrestling kicked off its Owen Hart Cup tournaments last night on Dynamite, with the winners earning World title shot at the All In pay-per-view at London’s Wembley Stadium.

PAC won the main event over Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of last night’s show. PAC will face the winner of the Bryan Danielson vs. Shingo Takagi match, which will take place at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 30.

The other first-round matches are Rey Fenix vs. “Switchblade” Jay White and Jeff Jarrett vs. a mystery opponent. Remember, Jarrett and Owen Hart held the WWF tag team title back in 1999.

On the women’s side, Kris Statlander scored an impressive win over Nyla Rose with a tombstone piledriver. She will take on the winner of Friday’s match on Rampage between Serena Deeb and Willow Nightingale.

The other first-round matches are Deonna Purrazzo vs. Hikaru Shida and Mariah May vs. Saraya.

WELCOME BACK

MJF wrestled his first match of 2024, defeating former Ring Of Honor champion Rush in the opener of Dynamite. Even though MJF has disavowed the concept of friendship and vowed to be a terrible person, the fans went crazy for him. Sounds like this generation’s “Rowdy” Roddy Piper to me.

MJF will wrestle another Mexican star, Hechicero, at Forbidden Door.

Orange Cassidy scored the winning pin in a wild eight-man tag team match. Orange teamed with Dante Martin, Kyle O’Reilly, and Mark Briscoe to beat Konosuke Takeshita, Roderick Strong, Zack Sabre Jr., and Kyle Fletcher.

The Acclaimed defeated AEW World tag team champions The Young Bucks in a non-title eliminator match. That means Max Caster & Anthony Bowens will get a shot at their second tag team title.

Daniel Garcia scored a quick win over former ROH TV champion Rhett Titus.

AEW Collision on Saturday will include Continental champion Kazuchika Okada vs. Ultimo Guerrero; and Chris Jericho & Big Bill vs. Private Party.
