Kansas City Royals Win Weekend Series Over Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians will get a much-needed day off today after losing to the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Sunday.

The Royals won three of four games in the series.

Looking at the pitching matchup, we should have seen this coming. Logan Allen was 8-3, while the Royals’ Seth Lugo was 10-2.

Sounds like a pitchers’ duel, right? Actually, Lugo came in with a 2.29 ERA, while Allen’s was a whopping 5.72.

RUN SUPPORT?

So Allen did not get his usual help from the Guardians offense, which only managed four hits off Lugo in his six shutout innings. Lugo struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. He now leads the major leagues with 11 wins.

Allen didn’t get bombed, but the Royals scored three runs off him in less than five innings, and that was enough.

Bobby Witt Jr., the Royals’ outstanding young shortstop, tripled in a run in the fifth before scoring on a single by Vinny Pasqantino for a 4-0 lead.

The Royals went up 6-0 in the seventh inning on a two-run homer by first baseman Salvador Perez.

WAKE UP THE BATS

Cleveland finally got some offense going in the eighth inning. Jose Ramirez doubled to score Daniel Schneemann. Josh Naylor then singled to bring home Ramirez.

The Guardians have a 30-game lead over the Chicago White Sox and will host them on Tuesday night. Carlos Carrasco (3-6) will start for Cleveland.
