Juan Soto Sweepstakes: Mets Meet With Prized Free Agent

The Juan Soto sweepstakes is the biggest story of the MLB offseason.

The superstar outfielder wasted no time answering questions about his pending free agency after losing the World Series with the New York Yankees. He claimed that every team was available and of course, that includes the New York Mets.

With Steve Cohen at the helm, could the Mets be considered the favorites?

The Mets’ brass, including President David Stearns brought shortstop Francisco Lindor to California to meet with Soto and his agent Scott Boras. Multiple reports claim that the detail-oriented meeting between both sides went well. Reports continued on Monday as Michael Kay claimed Cohen would be willing to spend $50 million over other teams for Soto.

This is a major move if the Mets are able to make it. New York was the surprise of the league this year, making a run to the NLCS in what was supposed to be a transition year.

New York has nearly $150 million coming off the books from players like Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. The team has stashed away plenty of talent for the future and Soto could be one of the final pieces. With plenty of financial flexibility, Cohen and the Mets are serious contenders for Soto.
