Juan Soto, Aaron Judge Could Become Historic Duo For New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have had plenty of historic duos during the team’s history.
Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig; Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris; Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez. The list goes on and on for the team that has totaled 27 World Series championships.
Here in 2024, Juan Soto and Aaron Judge have a chance to be the best in the history of the franchise.
The Yankees made a splash in the offseason when they acquired Soto from the San Diego Padres. The combination of Soto and Judge is made up of two of baseball’s best players and both are off to incredible starts. Soto has been consistent from Opening Day while Judge got hot in May after a slow start t the year.
So, just how good can these two be? Let’s look at their numbers through June 9:
Juan Soto
- AVG: .318
- H: 76
- HR: 17
- RBI: 53
- OBP: .424
- SLG: .603
- OPS: 1.027
Aaron Judge
- AVG: .305
- H: 73
- HR: 24
- RBI: 59
- OBP: .436
- SLG: .703
- OPS: 1.139
The key for Judge has been health. He has played every game for the Yankees this season and it has made all the difference. In April, Judge hit just .197 but got red hot and it has continued through the first week of June. He has hit .410 over his last 32 games and is on pace to hit 50+ home runs once again.
Soto is also on pace for north of 40 home runs. If both can reach this mark, they will become the first duo to accomplish this feat in the franchises history.
The Yankees are currently 46-21, which is the best record in the American League. The pitching staff has been productive from the opening weeks but the addition of Soto has made a major difference offensively. New York has World Series aspirations this season and Soto and Judge will likely be battling for the MVP award over the course of the year.
As teammates, this duo has a chance to go down in the long history of the Yankees.
