Josh Naylor Homers Twice as Cleveland Guardians Win in Extra Innings

Josh Naylor didn’t win the game for the Cleveland Guardians last night, but they couldn’t have made it to extra innings without him.

Naylor’s two solo home runs punched Cleveland’s ticket to the 10th inning, where the Guardians beat the Minnesota Twins 5-4 at Progressive Field.

FEEL THE BREEZE

Naylor seemed to be the only Guardians player to figure out Bailey Ober, who struck out 12 in seven innings.

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI grounder from Carlos Correa.

Naylor tied the score with a 445-foot blast to right center field in the second inning.

Correa put Minnesota in the lead again with an infield single in the fifth, driving in Willi Castro again off Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee.

Naylor’s next game-tying homer came in the bottom of the seventh. He now has 31 home runs and 105 RBI.

Emmanuel Clase pitched a scoreless ninth in a rare non-save situation.

EXTRA INNINGS, EXTRA FUN

Correa struck again for Minnesota with a two-run single in the top of the 10th. But as usual, the Guardians didn’t give up.

Kyle Manzardo singled to score Josh Naylor. Will Brennan tied the game with a single to score pinch-runner Myles Straw.

Brayan Rocchio won the game for Cleveland with a single to right field, scoring Andres Gimenez and starting the celebration.

Hunter Gaddis (5-3) got the win for the Guardians, who now lead the Kansas City Royals by six games with nine left on the schedule.

Cleveland and Minnesota will wrap up the series today at 1:10. Joey Cantillo (2-3) will start for Cleveland against the Twins’ Simeon Woods Richardson (5-5).

A win would clinch a playoff spot for the Guardians.
