Jose Ramirez Keeps the Party Going as Cleveland Guardians Beat Minnesota Twins 11-4
Jose Ramirez gave his approval of his new bobblehead doll before leading the Cleveland Guardians to an 11-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins.
Fans enjoyed the dolls, which feature Ramirez in the new CLE City Connect uniforms, but they really liked what Ramirez and his teammates did on the diamond.
Ramirez opened the scoring with a two-run homer to right field in the first inning. It was his second homer of the weekend and his 227th in a Cleveland uniform.
Cleveland went ahead 4-0 in the third inning on an RBI double by Ramirez and a sacrifice fly by Josh Naylor.
The Guardians pushed their advantage to 7-0 by the end of the fifth inning, with run-scoring hits by Tyler Freeman, Will Brennan, and Kyle Manzardo.
A SOLID START
Meanwhile, Guardians starter Logan Allen was shutting down the Twins. He pitched six shutout innings with seven strikeouts. Allen only gave up five hits and a walk.
Cleveland’s advantage ballooned to 11-0 on two-run singles from Freeman and Andres Gimenez.
Although Cleveland relieved Pedro Avila coughed up four runs in the ninth, the Guardians has more than enough cushion to send Minnesota to its fifth straight loss.
The Twins have been a streaky team this year. After a slow start, they ripped off a dozen wins in a row during a 17-3 streak. Now, they have gone cold again.
The Guardians will go for the sweep on Sunday at 1:40 p.m. Tanner Bibee (2-1) will start for Cleveland against Minnesota’s Chris Paddack (4-2).
