Johnny Gargano: Bringing WWE Gold Home to Cleveland
Johnny Gargano will walk into Cleveland Browns Stadium at SummerSlam on Aug. 3 with the WWE tag team title around his waist.
Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa (#DIY) captured the belts last night on Smackdown from Grayson Waller & Austin Theory.
While Cleveland is Gargano’s hometown, many of his greatest moments have taken place in Toronto. In addition to last night’s match, Gargano’s WWE debut was in Toronto.
#DIY also beat The Revival (now known as FTR in AEW) for the NXT tag team belts in Toronto back in 2016.
SMACK TALK
The Money in the Bank men’s participants opened Smackdown with a talking segment. Drew McIntyre, Jey Uso, and LA Knight are the favorites, while Carmelo Hayes, Andrade, and Chad Gable are the underdogs.
The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) picked up a win over entertaining British duo Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson).
The super-team of Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill got some revenge over the loss of their tag team titles by defeating Indi Hartwell & Candice LeRae.
Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, and Randy Orton talked about their battle at the PPV against The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tanga Loa & Tama Tonga). Owens said he has been dealing with his mother’s illness all week, but he was ready to fight.
WWE women’s champion Bayley scored a win over Piper Niven. This match featured brawling from the women’s MITB participants (Lyra Valkyria, Iyo Sky, Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton, Zoey Stark, and Naomi).
MORE MONEY, MORE MATCHES
The pay-per-view will start at 7 p.m. Eastern and will also feature two title matches. Sami Zayn will defend the Intercontinental title against rising star Bron Breakker.
Damien Priest will put the World title on the line against Seth Rollins. If Priest wins, Rollins can’t challenge him again. If Rollins wins, Priest must leave the Judgment Day faction.
