“Cancun On 3” Just Backfired On Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels is one of the most ELECTRIC rookies in the league today, there’s no question about it. Ever since the #2 overall pick stepped foot into the starting role for the Washington Commanders, he has done nothing but SHINE. In his 17 games for Washington, the former LSU Tiger has put up a ‘Rookie of the Year’ stat-line consisting of;

69% Cmp, 3568 Yds, 25 TDs, 9 INTs

He has become a legend in Washington, leading this franchise to it’s first NFC Championship game since 1992. BUT, after hearing what Daniels did to Lions’ DB Terrion Arnold after their divisional match-up last week…..I think it’s safe to say that #5 has also become a LEGEND in the ‘jersey swap’ game as well.

“Cancun on 3! 1, 2, 3.” Jayden Daniels may have destroyed the hopes and dreams of the Detroit Lions (and their fans) on the field, but he put the FINAL NAIL in the coffin with this move off the field. He dumped the Super Bowl dreams of the city of Detroit DEEP into the ground, and then danced on their grave with this one move.

This is, WITHOUT QUESTION, the greatest “troll job” in the history of “troll jobs.” As someone who LOVES ‘trash talking’ as much as the next guy, I can really get behind this jab that the Commanders’ QB gave to the opposition. We need more moments like this in sports. We need the human element to come out, and to allow the folks on the field to go at it every now and again; regardless if it’s for fun, or in the heat of the moment.

Granted; Terrion Arnold didn’t really do bad, in his own right. He did finish the game with the fourth most tackles for Detroit (6), while also recording five solo tackles and one assisted tackle. But after losing the biggest game in Lions’ history, and choking away a playoff run that Lions fans were expecting to be long and fruitful…..he ended up being the sad-sack who had to take the shrapnel, when it was all said and done.

It was an amazing situation that lead to a lot of laughs and fanfare throughout the week. The only issue is……it didn’t lead to anything substantial for the young QB, and the rest of his squad. It didn’t lead to the storybook ending that Commanders fans were hoping for, after their team suffered a devastating 55-23 loss in Philadelphia in the NFC title game.

Sure, this was still a year to remember for this young and budding team. But in the end…..I just hope Jayden and the rest of the fellas at least say HI to Arnold and co. when they get to Cancun. That was a great line for JD in the moment, but now that he has to deal with getting knocked out of the playoffs himself…..let’s just say his “joke” is not going to age well on social media.

Get ready for the memes, Mr. Daniels. But in the end, as always….what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
