Is this what Stefanski coaching for his job looks like? Part 9

Even before Browns head man Kevin Stefanski put his fingerprints all over the fiasco that ended the first half vs. the Bengals, many Browns backers had already been on a crusade to oust him from his rank.

And who do the majority have as their No. 1 contender?

The main candidate Dawgs Nation has been pushing for is Mike Vrabel, currently a “coaching and personnel consultant” for the Browns. He has a 56-48 record (including the postseason) in his only head coaching stint: a six-season run with the Tennessee Titans.

Vrabel proved to be masterful at managing the clock when, in a punting situation in the fourth quarter of a game in 2020, he exploited a loophole that existed (which was eliminated the very next season by the competition committee because of his brilliance in exposing it to the benefit of his squad) when he was the front man in Tennessee.

Vrabel can be seen on the sideline during Browns home games. Cleveland has numerous other assistants and position coaches who travel with the team on the road. And of course clock management falls squarely on the shoulders of the head coach, but one wonders if anyone brought to Stefanski’s attention that a timeout needed to be called at the end of the first half in Cincinnati this past weekend.

It’s been widely reported that Vrabel will have his pick of job openings during the coming hiring circuit. There’s been broad speculation that the Bears and Jets will have interest.

The important questions for those in C.Town calling for Stefanski’s head is: Would Vrabel be an obvious upgrade and would he want the head gig in Cleveland? We’re going there right now in Part 10.
