Is Becky Lynch Leaving WWE
As of midnight on Saturday, June 1st, Becky Lynch is a free agent. Reports suggest Lynch’s contract has expired and is no longer under contract to WWE.
What does this mean? Could Becky Lynch show up somewhere else? Could we see a name change and Rebecca Quin be “All Elite?”
Lynch is an 8-time women’s champion in WWE at 37 years old. She was the first woman to win a WrestleMania main event at WrestleMania 35 against Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, two of the biggest women’s names in the world at the time. Lynch has helped Tiffany Stratton and Lyra Valkyria establish themselves, and she has also been in major programs with the likes of Trish Stratus to Rhea Ripley.
Many could argue Becky Lynch is the most valuable women’s wrestler in WWE and has been for five years now. So if the reports are true and Becky Lynch is a free agent, it’s a big whiff on WWE’s part.
Becky Lynch is the equivalent of Randy Orton, John Cena, and The Undertaker. You don’t let some people’s contracts magically run out. You get the deal done. You don’t allow anyone else to knock at their door with a contract. Especially when there are rival companies on national television like All Elite Wrestling, who just secured Mercedes Mone (fka Sasha Banks).
Just imagine the dream matches AEW could give Lynch. Deonna Purrazzo, Dr. Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, Jamie Hayter, Julia Hart, and Thunder Rosa would all be great first-time matchups. Imagine her mixing it up with former WWE talent Mercedes Mone, Saraya, and Toni Storm.
While we could sit back and only dream of these dream matches, it can theoretically happen if Tony Khan pitched the right deal for Lynch… and she listened.
Now do I personally see this happening? No. Becky Lynch seems like a WWE lifer for a couple of reasons.
- Seth Rollins — Lynch is married to WWE’s workhorse Seth Rollins. That’s where the two met and have been on top of the industry together for a while. They even wrestle for the same brand, with both working Mondays together and not being split up in any WWE Draft since they started dating. Her going to AEW would result in having less time with her husband.
- Excellent Creative — One of the main reasons people leave is for creative differences. Lynch has always been treated more than fairly at WWE. She’s been treated like a main event player. She just opened WrestleMania 40 against Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship. She just released a book and the company promoted it. She was the Women’s World Champion just a week ago before Liv Morgan won it at King & Queen of the Ring. You can’t get any better creative direction than what she’s received in WWE.
Those two reasons alone convince me Becky Lynch will not join AEW, TNA, run the independent scene, or do anything else for that matter. If anything, she could spend some time at home letting her body recover and spend time with her daughter. Then when the time is right, Becky Lynch can return home to the WWE Universe with a new contract in hand.
