Iowa To Retire Caitlin Clark’s Jersey In 2025
No Iowa Hawkeyes Women’s basketball player will ever wear the number 22 again.
Iowa announced on Wednesday morning that they would be officially retiring Caitlin Clark’s jersey number.
“I’m forever proud to be a Hawkeye and Iowa holds a special place in my heart that is bigger than just basketball,” Clark said in a statement.
“It means the world to me to receive this honor and to celebrate it with my family, friends, and alumni. It will be a great feeling to look up in the rafters and see my jersey alongside those that I’ve admired for so long.”
Clark will be rightfully honored on February 2nd, 2025 making the date a fitting 2/2/25.
22 will be the third number retired by Iowa as Clark will join Megan Gutafson (#10) and Michelle Edwards (#30) in the rafters.
The game itself will be one to take as a currently 22nd-ranked Iowa team will take on player-of-the-year frontrunner Juju Watkins and the second-ranked USC Trojans.
No women’s college basketball player has ever had the impact that Caitlin Clark had on the Iowa program.
Clark’s jersey will be retired just one season after she left Iowa as a two-time national player of the year and the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball.
As a team, Clark led Iowa to the national title game in back-to-back seasons dropping both to SEC powerhouses LSU and South Carolina respectively.
During her first season in the WNBA, Clark was named the Rookie Of The Year after averaging 19.2 points 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists.
The Fever made the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Indiana was swept out of the first round by the Connecticut Sun.
2025 will see Clark be paired with a new head coach as the Fever hired Stephanie White to replace Christie Sides.
Indiana will open their 2025 season at home against the Chicago Sky on May 17th. The rivalry between Clark and Angel Reese will be rejuvenated right off the bat.
