Inside Baseball’s Big Day Of Playoff Matchups

Nothing is better than October for baseball fans and the 2024 playoffs have not disappointed thus far.

From Dodgers and Padres beef to Mets and Phillies thrillers the NLDS’ have been full of fireworks.

On the AL side, a pair of 1-1 series between the Tigers and Guardians, and the Yankees and Royals have the pennant race wide open.

Wednesday will be a day from every baseball lover’s dream as all four series will play pivotal games which will go a long way in deciding the 2024 World Series champion.

By the end of the day, the National League Championship Series matchup could be set as both the Mets and Padres are one win away from upset NLDS victories.

After a big 7-2 win yesterday, the Mets will look to close out their series in the Big Apple at 5:08 PM EST.

Jose Quintana will take the mound for New York and oppose a struggling Ranger Suarez who has an ERA of 6.04 in his last five starts.

Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos feels the Mets have to win today to avoid a Game Five at Citizens Bank Park.

“It’s a great opportunity because if we’re able to come in and scrape out a win here, I know that they do not want to go back to Philly for a Game 5.”

The other NLDS series could also end today after the Padres used a six-run second inning to defeat the Dodgers 6-5

Los Angeles is at risk of losing in the division series for the fourth straight season. The last time the Dodgers won a postseason series was in 2020 when they took down the Rays to win the World Series.

It’ll be a bullpen game for LA as they look to avoid yet another disappointing ending. San Deigo will have the edge in the pitching matchup as they send Dylan Cease to the mound.

Shifting over to the American League side, a pair of pivotal Game Three’s at the home of two teams no one expected to be here.

Detroit will host their first playoff game since the 2014 ALDS as the Tigers look to climb ahead of the AL Central Champion Cleveland Guardians.

The Tigers will once again go to their “pitching by committee” strategy in Game Three as they will have every pitcher except for Tarik Skubal and Reese Olson available.

Expect Jackson Jobe to factor somewhere into the occasion after throwing a strong 5 innings out of the bullpen in Game One.

Down in Kansas City, the Royals will host their first playoff game since Game Three of the 2015 World Series.

KC will send All-Star Seth Lugo to the mound as the back half of their 1-2 punch will look to produce a win just as Cole Regans did on Monday.

Offensively, the Royals will be facing Clarke Schmidt who has a career postseason ERA of 11.57 in 3 appearances.

Baseball fans will have plenty to watch for on Wednesday in what could be the best single day of the entire postseason.
