I’m Not A Fan Of These Pete Carroll/Chicago Bears Rumors

Welp…..here we go. After a long and tumultuous season for the Chicago Bears, it looks like the ‘coaching rumors’ are ramping up even more. It looks like another name has (reportedly) been thrown into the ring, with the hopes of landing (arguably) one of the most coveted coaching jobs in the league today.

That’s right; Pete Carroll, the former HC of the Seattle Seahawks, has reportedly expressed interest in being the TOP DOG in the Windy City next season. The 73-year old Carroll last coached in the league in 2023, where he helped lead Geno Smith and the Seahawks to a mediocre 9-8 record.

This new development in the Bears’ coaching saga has added YET ANOTHER name to their list of possible targets, which already includes;

  • Lions OC Ben Johnson AND DC Aaron Glenn
  • Former Titans HC Mike Vrabel
  • Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury

Now, for the record…..I don’t hate this idea “that much.” If that makes sense? I don’t hate the idea of bringing in a guy like Pete Carroll to help lead this young, and somewhat lost, Bears roster. The man has 18 years of Head Coaching experience in the NFL, AND has a Super Bowl to boot.

The problem that I do have with this though, is the fact he’s on the wrong side of 70. He’s old. He’s not someone who this organization can build with, in order to have long standing success for years to come. (If that’s even possible with the Bears?) Sure, he’s won in the past. Sure, he’s (somewhat) respected, and has proven that he can have long tenures with teams. But how much longer does he have coaching? Five? Six? Seven more years?

That….that is not what we need. Sure, bringing in a guy like Pete Carroll would be the biggest “Bears move” in the history of Bears moves. I’m sure of it! I can just picture the McCaskey’s now, looking at the news about Pete, and saying to themselves; “Oh man! We know that name! Let’s get him!”

No! What we NEED (and this is really stating the obvious here), is a young offensive minded leader who can work with Caleb Williams. We need someone who can develop a young QB the RIGHT WAY, which is something that this franchise has FAILED to do more often than not. We NEED someone like OC Ben Johnson, who is currently leading the #1 scoring offense (32.9 PPG) to the playoffs. Or we NEED someone like Kliff Kingsbury, who actually has a history with Caleb, and who can probably help get the best out of the kid.

Granted, that doesn’t fit the scheme that the Bears are used to. That doesn’t fit the “Monsters of the Midway” rhetoric that we’ve grown to love. But we need to try something else. We can’t let this team go to waste, like all of the other one’s in the past. It just won’t end well, and it will be bad for my overall well being.

Please don’t get Pete, Chicago. But what do I know? I’m just a guy from the Midwest, with a beer and a laptop, trying to make sense of this world.
