How Dallas Wings Head Coaching Intrest Is At All Time High

Since the Dallas Wings moved to the DFW metroplex in 2016, the team has seen a revolving door at the head coaching position.

Four head coaches have led the Wings in just nine seasons since relocation from Tulsa Oklahoma.

This offseason the Dallas Wings hired a head coach… just not to partake in the head coaching role.

Dallas hired legendary WNBA Head Coach Curt Miller as its first-ever GM and president of basketball operations.

Now that Miller has stepped off the sideline and into the front office full-time, ironically one of his first major tasks is to find a new head coach.

When meeting with the media on Thursday afternoon, Miller shed light on what the search has been like so far.

“That’s what’s really exciting about getting to come here. The opportunity to partner with a new head coach”

“Those searches are ongoing, it’s a global search, the interest in our job is at an all-time high, obviously there’s WNBA options, there’s collegiate options, there’s NBA options but even more importantly as the game is global, there’s international options.

“I’m really enjoying the process of the head coaching search; what’s really important in those discussions is style of play and understanding and listening to the head coach candidate and ultimately the head coach we land on how they wanna play and help them acquire players that would be successful in the way they wanna play”.

It is not a surprise that the interest in the Wings Head Coaching position is higher than ever before.

Despite finishing just 9-31 last season, the Wings have plenty of things looking bright for them in the future.

Last week, Dallas was awarded the number one overall pick in the WNBA draft which will likely be Uconn guard Paige Bueckers if she chooses to declare for the draft.

Not only will the new head coach have an instant franchise pillar to work with, but they will also have a pair of new facilities to use.

In 2026, the Wings will move from Arlington to downtown Dallas to play in a new arena and will also build a new practice facility.
No matter who the Wings decide on as a new head coach, they will have an abundance of resources to work with to bring DFW a WNBA championship.
