Here Comes the Judge: New York Yankees Pound Cleveland Guardians 8-1
Aaron Judge is becoming baseball’s version of Bo Jackson from Tecmo Bowl.
He’s on a different level than anyone else to the point that it’s unfair.
Judge hit two more home runs in the New York Yankees’ 8-1 demolition of the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday night.
The Yankees center fielder is batting .334, which is much higher than you would expect from a hitter with 47 homers and 117 RBI in August.
LOOK OUT, JOEY!
Rookie Joey Cantillo started for the Guardians, and Juan Soto greeted him with a 427-foot homer to center field, his 36th of the year. Gleyber Torres also scored, and the Yanks were up 2-0.
Soto scored again in the third on a two-run homer by Judge that doubled the lead. Remember, they hit back-to-back homers on Tuesday night.
In the fourth, Soto knocked in three more runs with a bases-loaded double. He got gunned down trying for a triple, but the damage was done. New York was on top 7-0.
At this point, the Guardians were realizing this may not be their night.
Judge hit his second homer of the game in the seventh off Eli Morgan. It traveled only 356 feet to right field. Judge took advantage of the park’s dimensions, which go back to the old Yankee Stadium.
BELATED CHRISTMAS PRESENT
Cleveland avoided the shutout on Jhonkensy Noel’s solo blast in the eighth inning. “Big Christmas” already has 10 homers in 101 at-bats.
Unfortunately for the Guardians, the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins both won last night. Cleveland’s lead over both teams shrunk to 2 1/2 games in the AL Central Division.
The Guardians and Yankees will face off at 1:05 p.m. in the series finale. Gavin Williams (2-5) will start for Cleveland, while the Yankees counter with Gerrit Cole (4-2).
