Has The Arch Manning Era Begun At Texas?

There was a small taste of Arch Manning under center early in the season in lopsided contests but on Saturday, Texas fans got a chance to see him in an extended role — and there could be more coming.

Quinn Ewers suffered an injury against UTSA on Saturday and this gave Manning a chance to step in and play the most snaps of his career. Manning took the opportunity an ran with it early on.

Manning finished 9-for-12 for 223 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He impressed with his legs as well, carrying the ball three times for 53 yards and a touchdown. This includes an explosive 67-yard touchdown run where he showed his speed.

How much more will we get from Manning?

The redshirt freshman returned to Texas as the backup after Ewers skipped on the NFL Draft for one more year. After this season, Manning would step into the starting role as Ewers embarks on different journeys. With Ewers sidelined, it raises the question on if the Manning era has started in Austin.

The competition was not the best he will face but Manning showed an impressive skill set against UTSA. He showed off his arm strength on many occasions and made quick decisions. Manning is not a typical dual-threat but he brings mobility that allows him to navigate the pocket and get outside when needed.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian is an offensive genius that can help raise Manning’s game to the next level. He has been in the program for over a year now and knows it well. These are all benefits for the young quarterback moving forward.

Finally, Manning will always carry the last name on his back and the expectations that come with it. This is nothing new as he played football over the course of his lifetime. Manning looks prepared for what will be thrown his way.

Ewers will likely step back in the starting role once he is completely healthy but for now, the Manning era might be upon us.
