Fired-Up Team AEW Beats The Elite in Blood and Guts Cage Match

Something dramatic has to happen for a Blood & Guts match to end, and that’s what we got last night on AEW Dynamite in Nashville.

Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, The Acclaimed & Darby Allin) prevailed over The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, The Young Bucks & “Hangman” Adam Page) in the double-cage main event.

Darby Allin is an ideal teammate in a match like this because of his tendency to do something insane. This time, he tried to set Jack Perry on fire.

To his credit, the former “Jungle Boy” did not quit when threatened with immolation. Matthew Jackson had to save his teammate by giving up for him.

Jackson made another important decision earlier in the match. Page was so busy handcuffing and attacking Strickland outside the ring that Jackson threatened to fire Page if he didn’t get into the cage.

Jeff Jarrett, Billy Gunn, and Prince Nana came to free Strickland so the AEW World champion could join the match.

RETURN OF THE DENTIST

Dr. Britt Baker made a triumphant return from the health problems that sidelined her over the last 10 months. Baker defeated three-time former AEW women’s champion Hikaru Shida with the Lockjaw submission hold.

After the match, Kamille made her AEW debut to attack Baker. She will be the bodyguard for Baker’s opponent at All In, Mercedes Mone. Kamille was the NWA World women’s champion for over two years.

Chris Jericho defeated Minoru Suzuki in a battle of 50-plus stars.

MJF bragged about his 60-minute win over Will Ospreay for the AEW International championship. He dumped the belt into a trash can before unveiling the AEW American title.

MJF and Ospreay will battle in London at the All In pay-per-view for this championship, which must have an identity crisis because it started as the All-Atlantic title.

In other bouts last night, PAC defeated Boulder (of The Iron Savages); and “The Glamour” Mariah May beat Kaitlyn Alexis.

This Friday, AEW will present a Royal Rampage battle royale. The winner will get a shot at the AEW World title at the Grand Slam Dynamite in New York in September.
