Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Wishlist, Week 5
Another week is in the books. As always, there were huge breakouts from under-the-radar players and dud performances from supposed studs. If you’re looking to shake things up for your Fantasy roster ahead of Week 5, here’s some players to add from the Waiver Wire.
Note: All fantasy advice in this article is based on PPR scoring unless otherwise stated.
RUNNING BACKS
JALEEL MCLAUGHLIN | DENVER BRONCOS
Week 4 stats: 7 CAR, 72 YDS, 0 TD, 3 REC, 3 TAR, 32 YDS, 1 TD – 19.4 FPTS
McLaughlin came out of nowhere to put up the most fantasy relevant game of the season by a Broncos RB in relief of Javonte Williams. With Williams banged up and Samaje Perine proving to be fairly ineffective, adding McLaughlin to your roster is just smart Waiver Wire play. 10 yds/carry and a receiving TD bode well for his ability to be efficient and versatile even if he splits reps with the aforementioned Perine if Williams misses any time.
TYJAE SPEARS | TENNESSEE TITANS
Week 4 stats: 5 CAR, 40 YDS, 0 TD, 3 REC, 4 TAR, 18 YDS, 0 TD – 8.8 FPTS
He continues to get Flex-relevant work behind workhorse Derrick Henry who just had his best game of the season by far on Sunday. Spears also has homerun ability so with a decent floor and untapped high ceiling, he should be rostered.
GUS EDWARDS | BALTIMORE RAVENS
Week 4 stats: 15 CAR, 48 YDS, 0 TD, 2 REC, 3 TAR, 1 YDS, 0 TD – 6.9 FPTS
Yes, Lamar Jackson is vulturing TDs in the Red Zone, but Edwards’ workload is solid, especially in non-PPR scoring. Give him a boost if you’re in a Standard league, and with Byes starting in Week 5, Edwards is a fine fill-in play this week against a porous Steelers run defense.
WIDE RECEIVERS
ROMEO DOUBS | GREEN BAY PACKERS
Week 4 stats: 9 REC, 13 TAR, 95 YDS, 0 TD – 18.5 FPTS
Despite the return of Christian Watson to the Packers’ lineup in Week 4, Doubs earned a team-leading 13 targets which he turned into 9 receptions for nearly 100 yards. He’s now scored 18 points in 3 out of 4 games this season. With Love playing good football and obvious chemistry between the two, Doubs needs to be rostered in the majority of leagues asap.
MICHAEL WILSON | ARIZONA CARDINALS
Week 4 stats: 7 REC, 7 TAR, 76 YDS, 2 TD – 26.6 FPTS
The Rookie Wilson is turning into one of Josh Dobbs’ most trusted targets in a surprisingly spunky passing offense through 4 weeks. He’s a must add in all formats after a big time breakout against the San Francisco 49ers. Whether it’s sustainable or not remains to be seen, but it feels like it is.
TIGHT ENDS
JONNU SMITH | ATLANTA FALCONS
Week 4 stats: 6 REC, 6 TAR, 95 YDS, 0 TD – 15.5 FPTS
As a Kyle Pitts share-holder, I’m as mortified and frustrated by the rise of Jonnu Smith as anyone, but with Ridder struggling to push the ball downfield in the passing game, Smith is becoming somewhat of a security blanket for the 2nd year signal caller. With as volatile as the TE position is for fantasy, Smith is a must-add TE this week.
JAKE FURGESON | DALLAS COWBOYS
Week 4 stats: 7 REC, 7 TAR, 77 YDS, 0 TD – 14.7 FPTS
Dak Prescott looked Furgeson’s way another 7 times in Week 4, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets in the end zone. He’s moved past streamer status and should be an every week play as one of Dak’s most trusted weapons.
DEEP SLEEPERS
TE | CONNER HEYWARD | PITTSBURGH STEELERS
With Pat Freiermuth expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury, Heyward is the one to look at for fantasy purposes. Rookie TE Darnell Washington is probably the more gifted athlete and weapon, but the Steelers obviously do not trust him to handle a high number of targets. With that in mind, if you’re desperate for TE help with injuries and Bye weeks on tap, you could give Heyward a chance.
WR | TREY PALMER | TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Mike Evans is slated to potentially miss some time with an injury, and Palmer is proving already to be a solid Red Zone weapon. Add in potentially more targets with Evans banged up and he could become a Flex relevant player quickly.
That does it for this week’s Waiver Wire Wishlist. For more details about these players, tune into the Fantasy First Podcast on Tuesdays and Thursdays where I discuss Waiver Wire targets, Thursday Night Football player and team props, DFS Darlings, and more!
