A Look at Texas A & M Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper

On April 25-27 the NFL will have its annual College Football Player Draft. The Cleveland Browns for the third straight year will be without a first-round pick. General Manager Andrew Berry in the last two drafts did a good job of finding first round caliber talent.  With a 2022 third round pick he chose CB Martin Emerson from Mississippi State and in fourth round of 2023 he drafted OT Dewand Jones from Ohio State. Both have played like first rounders in their early NFL careers. For the third straight year Andrew Berry will have to get creative in the NFL Draft.

This brings us to the draft prospect of linebacker Edgerrin Cooper from the Texas A&M Aggies. He is 6’2” and weighs 230 lbs. He was recruited by Texas A&M as a four-star linebacker from Covington Louisiana. In 2023 he registered 83 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 8 sacks. He is considered the third linebacker prospect of the draft.

He showed speed with his NFL Scouting Combine numbers along with his size. Cooper’s forty-yard dash time was 4.51 seconds with a 1.54 second 10-yard split. With Anthony Walker and Sione Taki Taki leaving in free agency. The linebacker position can be considered a future need for the Cleveland Browns. Although the Browns did sign Devin Bush and Jordan Hicks. However, linebacker is not considered a high value position in the more modern NFL. Which is possibly why he could drop to the second or third round in the 2024 Draft. Could the Cleveland Browns consider him another first round talent to be taken later in the draft?

It was reported that Cooper did meet with the Browns at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine last February. Could he be available with the 54th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft? Many other teams including the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers show interest in Cooper. As we have seen before when it comes to the NFL Draft. Anything can happen and any player can drop in the draft. Maybe it can happen again this April?
